A two-day orientation programme on the potential computerization of Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACS) commenced on September 3 at the Cooperative Training Centre, Medziphema.
The programme was organised by the Registrar of Cooperative Societies to promote digital transformation and enhance service delivery through PACS.
According to DIPR report, gracing the occasion as guest of honour, Orenthung Lotha, Commissioner and Secretary for IPR and Cooperation, highlighted the significance of PACS computerization in advancing financial inclusion and strengthening support systems for farmers.
He stated that digitized PACS would serve as nodal points for delivering various services, including agricultural inputs such as fertilizers and seeds.
He described the initiative as part of the Government of India’s vision to make PACS self-reliant and aligned with the broader goal of achieving prosperity through cooperative societies.
Reflecting on the history of the cooperative movement, he noted that over 29 crore individuals are directly involved in cooperatives across India, underscoring its role as a backbone of the nation’s socio-economic framework.
He urged cooperative societies, particularly educated members, to actively engage in strengthening the movement and to disseminate cooperative knowledge at the grassroots level.
He also encouraged officers and members to upgrade their professional skills to ensure positive outcomes in promoting cooperative development in Nagaland.
The programme was chaired by Chubamenla, principal of CTC, with a keynote address delivered by Akangjongshi, Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies, and a short speech by Jonah Sema, General Manager of NSCB Ltd.
A total of 44 cooperative societies and 12 officials from SRCS, ICS, and ARCS are participating in the orientation, which will conclude on September 4.
