A devastating fire broke out at Kevijau Colony, Lane-14, here on Friday morning, rendering five families homeless and leaving one person with burn injuries.
According to Fire & Emergency Services, the department received a distress call at around 9:26 a.m., following which two fire tenders each from the Central and Western Fire Stations were pressed into service. Personnel from Indian Oil Corporation also assisted in the operation.
The inferno, which gutted four bamboo-structured houses, was brought under control after a 30 to 40-minute effort by firefighters, preventing further spread to adjoining structures. During the blaze, three LPG cylinders also exploded, intensifying the fire.
Though no major casualties were reported, properties worth several lakhs were reduced to ashes. The exact cause of the fire and the full extent of damage were yet to be ascertained at the time of filing this report.
