Namsang public reiterates support for Kongshong EAC HQ; opposes relocation

DIMAPUR

The public of Namsang area under Tamlu block, Longleng district, has issued a statement reaffirming its collective support for Kongshong as the established location of the Namsang EAC headquarters, while strongly opposing any move to relocate the administrative centre.
According to the statement issued by Kongshong Public Union and village leaders, the genesis of the EAC headquarters traces back to 1984, when then minister of 49 A/C, S. Bangjak Phom, visited Bura Namsang village and acknowledged the genuine appeal of the public for an administrative centre. Following his visit, Kongshong was proposed as the site, and a memorandum with a detailed sketch map was submitted to the state government.
The EAC headquarters was officially created at Bura Namsang on December 17, 2007, and after a final sitting held on January 4, 2008, at the residence of Phuhthai, then treasurer of the village council, Kongshong was unanimously approved as the location. The meeting was attended by public leaders, village council members, GBs, staff, students, and residents.
All offshoot villages and Khels/Morungs of Bura Namsang submitted No Objection Certificates supporting Kongshong as the site. The inauguration of the EAC headquarters was held on November 28, 2008, by the then and present Chief Minister, Dr. Neiphiu Rio, in the presence of a large gathering of Namsang residents. The statement expressed deep concern over recent reports suggesting a possible shift of the EAC headquarters from Kongshong, describing such a move as a disruption to community harmony and an affront to the collective sentiment of the people. It emphasized that the location was accepted as a blessing and symbol of unity, and any attempt to relocate it would be unacceptable.
The public appealed to the government and concerned authorities to uphold the original decision and preserve the integrity of the established headquarters.
The statement was issued on behalf of the Namsang area publics by T. Ongmei Phom (chairman, Kongshong Public Union), M. Phakjang Phom (GB, Kongshong), and P. Mankap Phom (GB, Kongshong).
