NU celebrates 32nd Foundation Day across campuses

DIMAPUR

Nagaland University (NU) celebrated its 32nd Foundation Day on September 6 at Medziphema Campus, with simultaneous observances held at Headquarters Lumami and Kohima Campus.
According to NU, Vice Chancellor Prof. Patnaik, in his address, expressed satisfaction over the university’s improved NIRF ranking and acknowledged the contributions of his predecessors in shaping NU’s growth. He encouraged the academic community to pursue excellence through hard work, innovation, and dedication.
Registrar Dr. Abemo described the occasion as a day of thanksgiving and remembrance of pioneers, and lauded the efforts of teaching and non-teaching staff, scholars, and students in advancing the university’s mission.
Pro-Vice Chancellors Prof. Dipak Sinha (Medziphema Campus) and Prof. N. Venuh (Kohima Campus) also addressed the gathering.
As part of the tradition initiated by Prof. Patnaik, the Vice-Chancellor’s Award 2025 was presented to outstanding individuals across campuses. Awardees included:

  • Best Teacher: Dr. G. Bupesh (Dept. of Forestry, Lumami), Dr. Seema Rani Thappa (Dept. of Teacher Education, Kohima), and Dr. Deepa Thangjam (Dept. of Rural Development and Planning, Medziphema).
  • Best Non-Teaching Staff: Milto Swu (Finance, Kohima) and Yangpothung Lotha (Transport, Medziphema).
  • Best Research Scholar: Shisak Sharma (Chemistry, Lumami), Lochumi Kikon (Agril. Engineering & Technology, Kohima), and Rajan Singh (Livestock Production & Management, Medziphema).
  • Best Student: Alva Biginde M. Sangma (Chemistry, Lumami), Kezevinuo and Thejainuo Thevo (Linguistics, Kohima), and Karri Anusha (Plant Pathology, Medziphema).
  • A special award was conferred on Dr. Biplab Pal (Dept. of Physics).
    The celebration began with the hoisting of the university flag by Prof. Patnaik, followed by the singing of the NU anthem led by the EU Choir, School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS), Medziphema Campus.
    The programme was chaired by Prof. Malini Barthakur Sharma (Dept. of Genetics and Plant Breeding), with invocation by Dr. Sentimenla Jamir (Dept. of Soil Science), and welcome address by Prof. L. Daiho, Dean, SAS. Special numbers were presented by the EU Choir and SAS family choir, led by Dr. Moakala Changkiri and Dr. Chubatemsu Ozukum. Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Anthony V. Richa, Deputy Registrar, Medziphema Campus.
    At Headquarters Lumami, the foundation address was delivered by Prof. Mithilesh Kumar Sinha (Dept. of Economics), while at Kohima Campus, Prof. Buno Liegise (Dept. of Education) addressed the gathering.
