Angami Women Organisation (AWO) has strongly condemned the recent incident in Kohima where police uncovered an alleged organised sex trafficking racket involving the trafficking and exploitation of a minor girl.
Kohima police on September 6, 2025 announced the dismantling of a human trafficking and sexual exploitation network, leading to the rescue of a minor girl and the arrest of nine individuals, including the alleged mastermind.
In a press release, AWO president Neithono R. Sothu and general secretary Atono Kense said arrest of nine individuals including the mastermind “exposed a painful reality” that such illegal and unwanted activities were happening in the society. AWO said that such practices were completely alien to Naga culture, values and way of life.
Stating that Nagas upheld the dignity of every individual especially of women and children, the AWO said exploitation of the vulnerable was not only a grave crime but also a moral degradation and an assault on humanity.
Apex Angami organisation appreciated the prompt and courageous action taken by Kohima police in rescuing a minor girl and the arrest of nine accused.
AWO has urged the authorities to ensure that the perpetrators were brought to “a swift and uncompromising justice” without any leniency, and completely root out such networks.
The organisation has also sought continued support to the survivor (s) through counselling, rehabilitation and protection.
AWO affirmed its commitment to upholding and safeguarding the dignity of women and children, and to combating all forms of abuse against them.
Further, lauding the Nagaland police for successfully busting the racket, AWO has pledged its “full support” in the collect effort to “eradicate this grave menace from our society.”
Meanwhile, AWO has appealed to all the citizens, particularly parents, community leaders and institutions, to remain vigilant and work together to ensure that such alien and destructive practices find no place in Naga homeland.
It said that the recent incident must awaken all to the responsibility that trafficking, prostitution and sexual exploitation must be confronted collectively, with a strong resolve to safeguard women, children and society at large.
