Nagaland University, the only Central University in the State, has improved its performance in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 by securing a place in the 151–200 rank band. The results were announced on September 4, 2025 in Delhi by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
Reacting to the milestone, vice-chancellor Prof. Jagadish K. Patnaik said: “It means a lot for us because we were out of this band for two consecutive years (2023 and 2024). Now, we are back in the reckoning… All this is possible because of the efforts and dedication of all stakeholders to take Nagaland University to a different level.”
Some of the key initiatives that contributed to the improved performance include– strengthening research and innovation through publications and collaboration; upgrading laboratories, libraries, ICT-enabled classrooms, and research facilities; faculty development through regular training and workshops; student support through career guidance, scholarships, and placements etc.
In addition, Prof. Patnaik was honoured as a “dynamic leader” for excellent performance in the physical progress of Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA)-funded projects. The recognition was conferred by Mohammad Thorpic, MD & CEO, HEFA.
HEFA, a joint venture between the Ministry of Education and Canara Bank, provides financial support for infrastructure development in higher educational institutions.
With HEFA funding, Nagaland University has completed several projects including– new Science Faculty Building, Administrative Building and VIP Guest House at Lumami; a six-storied School of Engineering and Technology building at Kohima campus among others.
