Inter KIC U-16 badminton tourney begins at Pfutsero

DIMAPUR, SEP 9 (NPN)

The second edition of the Inter Khelo India Centre (KIC) Under-16 Badminton Tournament, organized under the aegis of the Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland, commenced on Tuesday at the Multi Purpose Stadium in Pfutsero, Phek district.
Gracing the opening ceremony as the special guest, Dr. Neisatuo Mero, MLA, expressed gratitude to the Department for hosting the tournament in Pfutsero. He acknowledged the positive developments in the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio, particularly in the promotion of sports and youth engagement.
“Our athletes are now winning more medals at the state, national and international levels. This shows that when young people are given the right support, they can achieve great things,” Dr. Mero stated. He encouraged participants to uphold honesty, mutual respect, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament, emphasizing that success is achieved through hard work and consistency. Highlighting the importance of a balanced diet and personal discipline, Dr. Mero urged the youth to make wise choices and bring pride to their families, state, and nation.
A total of 82 participants from KICs across Phek, Niuland, Wokha, Mokokchung, Zunheboto, Athibung (Peren), Mon, Kiphire, and Longleng are competing in both singles and doubles categories for boys and girls.
The opening programme was chaired by Kethosituo Sekhose, Director of Youth Resources & Sports, with an invocation by Rev. Dr. Kiizhopoyo Tunyi. The vote of thanks was delivered by Megolhu Dolie, Additional Director of the Department. The tournament is scheduled to conclude on September 10.
