Plea to Director, Department of AH and Vety for pig insurance scheme

Sub: Request for providing Pig Insurance Scheme.
Sir,
The Zunheboto Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ZCC&I) would like to draw you keen attention concerning rapid and widespread out-break of African Swine Flu and which, in consequence, is adversely and extensively affecting livelihood and entrepreneurship, and an appeal, therefore, for redressal thereof.
That Sir, it is a custom of almost the entire households to rear pigs. Many families primarily depend on the source of income accrued frommarket sale of pigs. Over the past few years, the constant disruption by the Flu endemic on the primary means of income has drastically destroyed the economy of several households particularly the poor leaving their lives helpless and precarious. What is all the more deeply disturbing is the helplessness of the concerned department on account of absence of its vaccine and cure. On account of which, it has not only devastated the current circumstance but, should this persist, the future of the farmers remain grim.
That sir, it is note-worthy to mention that Chief Minister’s Micro Finance Scheme has significantly encouraged entrepreneurship. Many of whom have opted for piggery project considering the availability of resources needed for the rearing and its easy marketability owing to the huge demand. However, it is unfortunate that almost all farms have become non-viable. The distress of financial burden is further amplified by the pressure of EMIs.
Given the situation, it is paramount and urgent that the Department sincerely look into this kind of matter that is deeply grieving the common public.
The Chamber, therefore, appeal your kind authority to sincerely collaborate with an Insurance Company and introduce a dedicated insurance scheme for pigs. The Chamber is of the conviction that this will go a long way in reviving the entrepreneurial spirit and thereby, the economy of our local community.
Solicit your prompt and sincere action, please.
Yours sincerely,
Kikheto Muru,
President, ZCC&I;
Inahoto Assumi, General Secretary, ZCC&I
