Eastern Nagaland College Students’ Union (ENCSU) has appealed to the chief minister to intervene for the expedited repatriation of Naga citizens stranded in Nepal owing to the prevailing political and social unrest in that country.
In a memorandum addressed to the chief minister, ENCSU president Mankap C Konyak and general secretary K. Pongjikhiung Yimkhiung described him as the “venerable custodian and revered father of the State” whose leadership had brought progress and harmony to the people of Nagaland. The union said it was compelled to seek his intervention on account of the plight of Nagas stranded in Nepal and unable to secure safe passage back home.
ENCSU said that the politico-social perturbations in Nepal had created severe hardships for these individuals, who lacked the resources and means to ensure their repatriation to Nagaland. Their continued stay, it said, had left them vulnerable to uncertainty and risks, which had become a matter of grave concern not only for them but also for their families in Nagaland. ENCSU requested the chief minister to urgently initiate and coordinated with the government apparatus to obtain travel documentation and logistical support. It also appealed for provision of immediate assistance and necessary support upon their arrival in Nagaland to mitigate the distress faced by both the returnees and their families.
The union expressed optimism that the state government’s timely and decisive action would alleviate the hardships of those stranded and restore confidence among their anxious families.
