ENCSU demands English asst. professors for WGC

Eastern Nagaland College Students’ Union (ENCSU) has expressed serious concern over the acute shortage of English assistant professors at Wangkhao Government College (WGC), Mon, which it said has resulted in academic stagnation and deprived students of quality education.
In a representation to the commissioner & secretary, Higher and Technical Education, ENCSU president Mankap C. Konyak and general secretary K. Pongjikhiung Yimkhiung said Wangkhao Government College, one of the oldest and most respected institutions in the State, has been grappling with a “severe and protracted shortage” of English assistant professors.
This, it maintained, has created a parlous academic environment, undermining the academic prospects and employability of students.
The union alleged that the failure to address this shortage amounted to step-motherly treatment of Eastern Nagaland region, further deepening a sense of disillusionment and disenfranchisement.
ENCSU therefore demanded immediate action from the department and called for transfer of at least two English assistant professors to WGC within this month.
It also sought concrete steps to ensure adequate and competent staffing of faculty members and a comprehensive plan to address systemic and structural issues underlying faculty shortages in the State.
Quoting Nelson Mandela’s words that “education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”, ENCSU said the current shortage of faculty was perpetuating “a cycle of stagnation and decline”, which it warned would no longer be tolerated.
