The third edition of the Marwari Premier League Night Cricket Tournament, presented by Onkarmal Agarwal Foundation and organized by Marwari Yuva Manch Dimapur Shikhar begin on Saturday evening at Dimapur District Sports Council (DDSC) complex.
In her address as a special invitee, Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) deputy chairperson, Imlinaro S. Ezung, extended a warm welcome to all the players participating in the ongoing event in Dimapur, particularly those who had travelled from outside the state.
Imlinaro said that the players from across the Northeastern states were the true special guests of the occasion. She expressed hope that the warm hospitality and friendship extended in Dimapur would leave a lasting impression on all visitors.
Acknowledging the Marwari community’s contribution to the economy of Dimapur, Imlinaro said it speaks volumes of their commitment and role in the town’s growth. She also urged the community to extend similar encouragement to the younger generation, particularly in the field of sports.
She assured that the DMC would always be ready to collaborate and support such initiatives in the future.
Chairman, East Dimapur Town Council (EDTC), Niuto Awomi, in his brief address, expressed hope that the tournament would strengthen ties between the Marwari community and the Nagas. He appealed to the community to invest in East Dimapur, assuring that the town council remained open and supportive.
President, Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU), Hinoto P. Awomi, in his address as the special invitee, said that the tournament was a symbol of unity and brotherhood. While addressing the Marwari community, he clarified that DNSU’s stand on the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Dimapur was not against any particular community but a measure to safeguard the identity and culture of the Nagas.
Furthermore, vice president, Mandal-D PPMYM, Prem Pareek, remarked that cricket was a game that unified people, especially the youths, and expressed confidence that the tournament would foster friendship and goodwill.
The event was officially declared open by the four distinguished invitees.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Immasenla Rachel, welcome address delivered by tournament chairman, Rishi, and the vote of thanks by Arinjay Jain. It may be noted that 16 teams from across the North East are participating in the tournament, which will culminate on September 21.
