‘One Day with DC’ initiativelaunched in Kohima to inspire youth

DIMAPUR

In a bid to foster civic awareness and inspire young minds, the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, B Henok Buchem, officially launched the “One Day with Deputy Commissioner” initiative on September 12. The programme was designed to provide students with firsthand exposure to the workings of district administration and public service.
According to a DIPR report, the inaugural batch comprised five students from Dr. N. Kire Government Higher Secondary School. The students visited the DC Office, Kohima, where they engaged in an interactive session aimed at deepening their understanding of governance and administrative processes.
During the session, DC Buchem, along with administrative and district officers, members of the Kohima Press Club, and officials from the Nagaland Pollution Control Board, interacted with the students. Buchem shared motivational accounts of bureaucrats who overcame adversity through perseverance and humility. He underscored the importance of hard work, a positive mindset, physical well-being, and leadership qualities in achieving success.
Emphasizing the broader objective of the initiative, Buchem encouraged the students to pursue excellence regardless of their socio-economic backgrounds. He noted that the program seeks to build confidence, expand perspectives, and cultivate interest in public service careers among the youth.
The initiative will continue to select five meritorious and enthusiastic students from both government and private schools across Kohima district. Through direct engagement with the district administration, participants will gain valuable insights into the governance system at the local level.
The students actively participated in the program, demonstrating keen interest and commitment throughout the session.
