RMSA teachers’ stir: NMA seeks Governor’s intervention

DIMAPUR, SEP 16 (NPN)

Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) has sought Nagaland governor’s immediate intervention into the ongoing agitation by a section of RMSA teachers in Nagaland.
In a letter to the governor, NMA president Vilanuo Angela Yhome, vice president Malsawmthangi Leyri, adviser Padma Shri Sano Vamuzo, adviser Prof. Dr. Rosemary Dzüvichü and adviser Abeni TCK Lotha, reminded that the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench had held that the petitioners (aggrieved teachers) were entitled for scale of pay at pay band of Rs. 9300-34,800 with grade pay of 4200 per month. NMA also informed that court accordingly “directed the State respondents to grant such scale of pay to the petitioners forthwith.”
Subsequently, NMA said the Supreme Court made the following order on the special leave petition of the government, stating that the SLP was dismissed and the court was not inclined to interfere with the judgement and order of the high court. Therefore, NMA has urged the state government, through governor’s office, to grant justice to the agitating RMSA teachers and implement the orders of the court.

RMSA teachers’ protest enters 7th day

KOHIMA, SEP 16 (NPN): The protest by RMSA-2016 teachers entered the seventh day Monday, with participants staging a peaceful march from the Directorate of School Education to the Civil Secretariat here.
In a show of solidarity, social activists and GB, Kahuto Chishi, addressed the gathering and criticised what he termed as government mismanagement. He remarked that there were “only two tribes in Nagaland: the poor and the rich,” alleging that the well-off were exploiting the less fortunate.
Accusing the system of corruption, Chishi said, “They exploit sanctions meant for road development and any kind of development funds… they are trying to exploit the money of teachers.”
He went on to describe the government as the “root of all evil in Nagaland” for failing to provide even basic salaries.
He asserted that the teachers were only asking for what they had rightfully earned and nothing more. “Education is a weapon while school education is the most important foundation of a bright future,” he said in his concluding remarks.
Meanwhile, the RMSA-2016 Teachers’ Association reaffirmed that the protest would continue until their demands were fulfilled.
