Dimapur DPDB sets up panel to address flood problem

To address recurring flood problem in Dimapur, the district planning and development board (DPDB) has constituted a committee headed by revenue officer and comprising of civil society groups such as Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation and GB Union.
Addressing media persons at his office here on Tuesday, the deputy commissioner (DC) Dimapur, Tinojongshi Chang, informed that the panel has been tasked with identifying areas of encroachment, blockages, and other vulnerabilities. DC said that committee has been asked to submit a detailed report within two months to DPDB for further action.
Following heavy rainfall on September 14, several colonies under Kuda village in Dimapur were affected. The impacted areas include Vilhume colony, S.M. colony, East Police Colony, Namgalong Colony, Ragailong Colony, and Mao Colony.
DC said informed that though floodwaters had entered multiple colonies, no major damages or casualties have been reported so far. He added that water levels were gradually receding.
On immediate measures taken, DC informed that the district project authority (DPA) along with staff from the district disaster management authority (DDMA) conducted site visits on Sunday to verify the situation in the affected locations.
DC assured that the district administration would continue to closely monitor flood-prone sites in coordination with the chairmen and GBs of the colonies.
He also said that machinery from the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and other supporting agencies would be deployed as required.
While SDRF has not reported any operations so far, officials confirmed that the force remains on standby to respond to any emergencies.
