NPF slams former MP Lorho Pfoze’s remarks

DIMAPUR, SEP 18 (NPN)

Naga People’s Front (NPF) Thursday described as “factually incorrect, misleading” the purported statement of its former MP from Manipur Dr. Lorho S. Pfoze that NPF was a “highly exclusive political party” with “no room for members from other communities.”
NPF through its press bureau also said it was “unfortunate” that such statement was coming especially from a person who was himself the official NPF candidate for the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency in 2019.
NPF press bureau stated that Dr. Lorho was “relatively unknown” beyond his immediate circle before 2019, but the party took the “bold decision” to nominate him after extensive consultation and spade work.
It said the party invested its resources, energy, and manpower tirelessly to ensure his victory. NPF said he was elected with a margin of about 80,000 votes — a feat made possible because the party reached out to all sections of society, not just the Nagas.
NPF pointed out that there are 27 Assembly Constituencies under the Outer Parliamentary Seat: 11 ACs predominantly Naga, 9 ACs predominantly Kuki-Zoumi, and 7 ACs are Meitei-Muslim dominated. The party said Dr.Lorho secured votes from all tose communities in addition to Naga voters.
“These facts clearly demonstrate that NPF is not exclusive to any one community but rather works with all sections of the population for peace, prosperity, and mutual understanding,” the party said.
Therefore, NPF said Dr. Lorho’s statement displayed “a regrettable ignorance” of the party’s organizational structure, policies, and its close relationship with every community in Manipur.
As a former MP, NPF said he ought to have acknowledged the contribution of the diverse electorate that sent him to Parliament rather than dismissing them with such an immature and divisive remark.
