4000 kg suspected smuggled areca nuts seized in Mkg

DIMAPUR

A Special Operation Team led by the Additional Superintendent of Police, Mokokchung, intercepted and seized two trucks suspected of transporting smuggled areca nuts on September 21, 2025, around 11:20 p.m.
According to Addl. SP, the trucks—Eicher (BIR No. AS 01 SC 9997) and Ashok Leyland (AS 26 AC 0755)—were found carrying approximately 4000 kilograms of areca nuts (2000 kg in each vehicle) concealed in hidden compartments built under the body floor.
Four individuals from Barpeta district, Assam, were apprehended in connection with the case: Sanowar Khan (32), Akbar Ali Dewan (21), Nur Mohammad Ali (22), and Jahidul Islam (27). The drivers failed to produce valid challans or documents required by law, leading to the seizure of the consignment at PS-II Mokokchung following due legal procedures in the presence of the accused. The case has been registered under PS-II GDE No. 05/2025 and the seized items along with the accused persons have been forwarded to the Deputy Commissioner of Customs (Preventive) Division, Dimapur, Nagaland for further legal action.
