The extension of ban by five years more on NSCN (K), led by ‘maj. gen.’ (Rtd.) Ang Mai, Nyeiton Konyak and Kughalu Mulatonu, by the government of India has elicited strong response from the outfit.
The MIP of the group, maintained that the five-year ban amounted to a “declaration of war,” and that the continued presence of Indian armed forces in Naga areas constituted a serious concern. MIP reiterated that NSCN-K does not intend to occupy Indian territory or engage in combat outside Naga soil, but called on New Delhi to instruct its forces to pursue dialogue and peaceful solutions.
It also welcomed the notification as a “validation of Naga sovereignty” reaffirming that the Nagas have historically remained a distinct people. It maintained that Nagas had no political or historical relations with India prior to 1963 and 1972, and accused India of imposing “repressive” laws such as AFSPA, UAPA, TADA, Disturbed Areas Act and NSA among others.
The group appealed to the Ministry of Home Affairs to immediately reverse the illegal order, sit and talk with the NSCN-K to end the political deadlock.
