Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Chirag Paswan on Friday lauded the initiatives taken by the Meghalaya government in food processing and organic cultivation.
Inaugurating the “Meghalaya Pavilion: Showcasing Natural Richness and Innovation” at World Food India (WFI) 2025, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, Paswan praised Meghalaya’s organic Lakadong turmeric, which has now gained global recognition.
The premier food processing event is organised by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries.
“This initiative, pioneered by the Government of Meghalaya, gives us confidence in the future of the food processing sector. I believe other states can learn from and replicate this model,” the Union Minister said. Appreciating Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s commitment in promoting sustainability and organic products, Paswan said, “It gives me immense joy to see Meghalaya performing so well and ensuring that organic products from every corner of India, especially from this state, reach global markets.”
He assured Chief Minister Conrad Sangma of Central government’s support to extend full support through dedicated schemes to further accelerate Meghalaya’s progress and empower its farmers.
The Union Minister also congratulated “Meghalaya Collectives” for playing such a vital role in driving this journey forward.”
Serving as a Focused State, Meghalaya inaugurated its dedicated pavilion, unveiling a portfolio of initiatives and forging powerful partnerships that mark its evolution as a major organic food processing hub anchored on community-driven models and export-ready supply chains.
Chief Minister Sangma, who also spoke at the event, encouraged all Self-Help Groups and societies to take advantage of programmes like these.
“You must engage. You must meet as many people as you can. You never know what kind of Opportunities may unfold because of programmes like this.
We can organise or we can facilitate these programmes, but to be able to unlock the potential- will depend on your personal capacity, your hardwork, your desire and your motivation to take your business forward” Sangma said.
During the event, the Chief Minister also launched the “Meghalaya Collective Organic” at the Meghalaya Pavilion, New Delhi alongside Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Paswan.
“Meghalaya Collective Organic” is a unified brand that brings together our farmers, FPOs & cooperatives, delivering authentic, traceable, and sustainably sourced organic produce straight from Meghalaya.
With strategic partnerships signed today between MEGNOLIA and various companies, we envision to put Meghalaya on the map as a hub for organic farming in India, in line with the Meghalaya Organic Mission.
“These initiatives and partnerships will bring better incomes for our farmers and promote healthier choices for consumers in India and abroad,” Sangma said.
