Nagaland governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, began a two-day official visit to Wokha district on September 27, with engagements focused on reviewing developmental initiatives and interacting with key stakeholders.
According to DIPR report, the Governor was received at Assam Rifles Camp, Wokha, where he was accorded a Guard of Honour. He also made a brief stop at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Wokha, reflecting his interest in youth and education.
At Doyang, the Governor visited the Doyang Hydroelectric Power Station and held a meeting with officials of North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO). The programme, chaired by Head of Project John Zeliang, featured a presentation by Senior Manager (Civil), Zachamo Ovung, highlighting the dam’s history, infrastructure development, community outreach and regional connectivity.
Commending the NEEPCO team, the Governor lauded their contributions to the state’s energy sector and emphasized the role of such institutions in driving economic growth and improving quality of life.
The Governor was accompanied by his wife Jyoti Grover Bhalla, Deputy Commissioner Wokha Vineet Kumar, Superintendent of Police T. Relo Aye and other senior officials. He is scheduled to stay overnight at Doyang and continue site visits the following day.
Governor Bhalla was appointed to Nagaland in August 2025 following the demise of La Ganesan. A seasoned administrator, he previously served as Governor of Manipur and Union Home Secretary.
The Doyang Hydroelectric Project, commissioned in 2000, is the only major hydroelectric facility in Nagaland with an installed capacity of 75 MW. Operated by NEEPCO, the project plays a vital role in meeting the state’s energy needs and contributing to regional development.
