27th Edition of MDFA Trophy set to kick off from Oct 14

DIMAPUR SEP, 27 (NPN)

The Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) has officially announced the commencement of the 27th edition of the MDFA Trophy, scheduled to begin on October 14, 2025, at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung.
During a press conference held at the MDFA office, officials along with the organizing committee unveiled key details about the tournament. The championship will feature a total cash prize of Rs. 3.75 lakhs, with the champions receiving Rs. 2 lakhs along with the trophy, while the runner-up will be awarded Rs. 1 lakh. Additionally, individual prizes with certificates will be presented to outstanding players. All participating teams will also receive honorariums as a token of appreciation.
The opening ceremony will be graced by Sethrongkyu Sangtam, MLA, as the chief guest, while the closing ceremony will see DMC Councilor Lanuchuba Imchen as the chief guest.
Addressing the press conference, vice president (Technical), MDFA, Bendangnukshi, shared insights into the technical aspects of the tournament. He revealed that approximately 15 teams are expected to compete this year.
A new by-law has been introduced to enhance team regulation and discipline, aiming to elevate the professionalism of the tournament. This by-law mandates that teams participating must be from Mokokchung district, though it allows any player, regardless of origin, to take part in the competition.
