Trekking guidelines for Dzükou Valley

DIMAPUR

Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) has announced new safety directives for trekkers visiting Dzükou Valley, effective from October 1. As per the notification, it will be mandatory for all trekkers to be accompanied by SAYO-registered tour guides, and trekking beyond 3 pm—either to or from Dzükou Valley—will be strictly prohibited.
In a press release, SAYO president, Zasitsolie Beio and general secretary, Keneisel Tetso, the decision comes in response to a rising number of incidents involving trekkers losing their way or getting stranded without guides.
SAYO volunteers have had to conduct multiple rescue operations, often late at night or early morning, incurring considerable risk and expense. To prevent further mishaps and ensure the safety of visitors, the following measures will be enforced: All trekkers must engage a local guide registered with SAYO before entering Dzükou Valley; trekking after 3 pm will not be permitted under any circumstances and defaulters will be penalised as per rules, and SAYO will not be held liable for any risks incurred.
SAYO has appealed to all visitors to cooperate with the guidelines in the interest of safety and preservation of Dzükou Valley.
