In a significant milestone, Kozabe village was officially declared the first village under Chümoukedima Electrical Division to achieve 100% smart metering installation, marking a major step towards digital transformation in energy usage and billing transparency.
As part of SEVA PARV week, the Power Department, Chümoukedima Electrical Division, conducted a sensitization programme on Rooftop Solar (RTS) under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG:MBY) at Kozabe Village on September 29.
The programme aimed to raise awareness among rural households on the benefits of grid-connected rooftop solar systems. Department officials briefed participants on financial incentives, subsidy provisions, and long-term advantages of clean energy. Demonstrations and interactive sessions were held to educate villagers on installation procedures, smart net metering, and application processes. Empanelled RTS vendors showcased product specifications and pricing, while the SBI Branch Manager, Chümoukedima, explained bank financing options available for solar installations.
Addressing the gathering, ADC Chümoukedima Dr Kuzonyi Wideo commended the village leaders, residents, and department officials for their collective efforts in implementing government schemes. He emphasized the importance of community participation in promoting sustainable and self-reliant energy practices, stating, “This is not just a technological milestone—it is a people’s achievement.”
Smart meters, he noted, empower consumers to monitor real-time energy consumption and enable the department to improve service delivery, detect faults remotely, and reduce energy losses. In recognition of the achievement, the Power Department presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Kozabe Village. Officials acknowledged the active support of the Village Council and residents in facilitating the successful implementation.
The programme concluded with a pledge to uphold clean energy initiatives and responsible consumption practices.
