Reguri Village celebrated the 60th session of the Yishi Festival, the Millet and Corn Harvest festival of the Pochury tribe, with great enthusiasm and traditional fervor on the theme “Anchoring our Culture” on September 30, at Reguri village.
The milestone occasion was graced by Tafi Snock Phoji, State Executive Member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Nagaland, as the special guest, accompanied by Nini Cheng, Tsetsiitho Nyuthe and Shri. Yigo Pichhurii of BJP Nagaland.
Addressing the gathering, Tafi Snock Phoji congratulated the people of Reguri on reaching the 60th milestone of Yishi celebration. She commended the Pochury community for preserving and promoting their rich cultural identity, and encouraged the younger generation to take pride in their heritage while striving for progress and development. “Let this festival be significant of forgiveness and progress.Reguri is blessed with abundance of flora and fauna the future generation should preserve the rich God gifted natural resources like the older generations have done it” she added.
Yishi festival, also celebrated to pay homage to the departed souls, was marked by vibrant cultural performances, including folk songs, indigenous games and modern sports that symbolize unity, thanksgiving, and the spirit of community. Villagers and visitors from far and near came together in a grand feast, reflecting the harmony and hospitality of the Pochury people.
Reguri Village is one of the remotest villages of the state, bordering Myanmar International Border Point-130 with a thousand Population. Since the inception of the village in 1965, this is the first time a lady has been invited to grace the traditional festival celebration as the Chief Guest, making it a historical moment for Reguri Village.
The presence of Tafi Snock Phoji and the spirited participation of the villagers made the 60th Yishi Festival at Reguri Village a memorable and historic celebration of culture, unity, and tradition.
Earlier in the inaugural, the session was chaired by Daniel Trakgha, invocation was pronounced by R. Josan, Pastor RUBC, Brief note of Yishi was narrated by Sachu Thuzu (VCC), vote of thanks was given by Yitsomu (VP-RVY), and benediction was pronounced by P. Dunyu, Pastor UPC.
