CorrespondentKOHIMA, OCT 3 (NPN)

The UTT 28th Inter-District and State Table Tennis Championship 2025 concluded on Friday at the Indoor TT Stadium, Kohima, with Kohima district emerging the overall champion, securing nine gold medals along with seven silvers and five bronzes. The four-day tournament, organised by the Nagaland Table Tennis Association (NTTA), featured 146 players from 13 districts competing across 17 disciplines.
In the overall medal count, Kohima finished far ahead of the rest with nine golds, seven silvers and five bronzes, sealing its status as the tournament powerhouse. Dimapur followed with four golds, two silvers and two bronzes, while Chümoukedima managed two golds, one silver and one bronze. Wokha secured one gold, one silver and two bronzes, and Mokokchung picked up one gold and one bronze, while other districts shared the minor podium places.
The closing ceremony was graced by C. Manpon Konyak, MLA, as guest of honour. In his address, he commended NTTA for successfully organising the championship and congratulated all players, mentors and fans. Konyak emphasised that sports are not only about health and recreation but can also open career paths for youth.
Drawing comparisons to smaller nations like Malta, Nauru and Bermuda that have achieved international sporting success despite their small populations, Konyak encouraged young Nagas to aim for similar excellence. He further urged the younger generation to rise above the challenges of factionalism and tribalism, describing them as hindrances to unity and progress.
The legislator also expressed appreciation to the state leadership for creating a peaceful environment conducive to sports and development. Calling upon educated youth and social activists to work closely with the government, he stressed on collective efforts for a better society. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Er. Vikheto Shohe, vice president of NTTA.
