St. Xavier HSS celebrates cultural day at Shamator

DIMAPUR

St. Xavier Higher Secondary School, Shamator, celebrated its annual Cultural Day on October 3 with vibrant displays of tradition and talent. The event was graced by EAC Shamator, Mekato Aye, as special guest, and Col. G. P. Singh, Commandant, 32 Assam Rifles, Shamator, as guest of honour.
According to a press release issued by the school, both dignitaries commended the students for their energetic performances and lauded the institution for promoting cultural identity alongside academic excellence. They encouraged the younger generation to take pride in their roots while striving for success in their educational and professional pursuits.
The highlight of the celebration was a series of competitions that showcased the richness of local heritage. Students participated in War Cry (Yelling), symbolizing strength and unity, while Folk Dances and Folk Songs reflected the community’s cultural vibrancy. Traditional skills were also on display through basket making and knitting competitions, emphasizing the importance of preserving indigenous crafts.
Students also presented Folk Tale Narrations, bringing to life the wisdom, humour and moral values embedded in oral traditions. The event served as a platform for cultural expression and intergenerational learning, reinforcing the school’s commitment to holistic education.
