Seminar on Kuki culturalethos and sustainable living

DIMAPUR

The fourth phase of the seminar titled “Weaving Heritage: Propagating Sustainable Community Life in Harmonious Co-existence with Nature through the Cultural and Traditional Ethos and Values of the Tribal Kukis in Nagaland” was held on October 4 at the Conference Hall of KCC N/S, Molvom Village under Medziphema sub-division.
According to a DIPR report, the seminar was jointly organised by Gracious Society, Ahthibung, in collaboration with the Kuki Students’ Organisation Nagaland (KSON) and Kuki Inpi Nagaland (KIN), and sponsored by the North Eastern Council (NEC), Ministry of DONER, Government of India.
In his inaugural address, president of KIN, L. Singsit, emphasized the importance of youth embracing their cultural roots while adapting responsibly to modern changes. He highlighted that the essence of Kuki tradition lies in its deep respect for nature and collective living.
Resource persons who spoke during the seminar included Lensei Lotjem, chairman, Custom and Culture Board, KIN; David Hanneng, Assistant Professor, Burdwan University, West Bengal; and Hoineichin Singson, MSW, social worker and founder of Gracious Society.
The programme witnessed active participation from community leaders, students, church representatives and local residents, fostering intergenerational dialogue and cultural exchange.
The seminar underscored the importance of preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Kuki tribes while promoting sustainable and harmonious living with nature. A symbolic tree plantation was also carried out to reinforce the commitment to environmental stewardship and traditional values.
