BJP Nagaland launches Atmanirbhar Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan in Kohima

CorrespondentKohima, Oct 6 (NPN)

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland launched the Atmanirbhar Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan at the party’s state headquarters on Monday, aligning with the nationwide 90-day campaign initiated on September 25 in New Delhi. The campaign, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, aims to rekindle the spirit of self-reliance and promote the use of Indian-made products.
Addressing media persons, BJP Legislature Party leader and Deputy Chief Minister Y. Patton described the campaign as a renewed pledge to Swadeshi—supporting indigenous products—which he termed the foundation of Atmanirbhar Bharat. He emphasized that embracing Swadeshi is not only an economic choice but also an act of cultural pride and national strength, echoing the message “Har Ghar Swadeshi, Ghar-Ghar Swadeshi.”
Tracing the historical roots of the movement, Patton recalled the role of Swadeshi in India’s freedom struggle, led by figures such as Lokmanya Tilak, Sri Aurobindo, and Mahatma Gandhi. He noted that the spirit was revived in 1964 by Dattopant Thengadi, who championed economic self-reliance as a measure of national security.
Patton stated that the revival of Swadeshi thought laid the foundation for the Atmanirbhar Bharat movement in 1991, which has gained momentum under Prime Minister Modi through initiatives like Make in India, Startup India, and Vocal for Local. He said these efforts have built three pillars of national development—Swadeshi (promotion of Indian goods), Swabhasha (Indian languages and knowledge systems), and Swabhusha (heritage and aesthetics)—guiding the nation toward Viksit Bharat (Developed India).
Highlighting India’s achievements, Patton cited the country’s rapid transformation during the Covid-19 pandemic into a major producer of PPE kits, ventilators, and vaccines, and its global outreach through the Vaccine Maitri initiative. He also noted India’s progress in renewable energy, defence production, and digital innovation, including UPI and mobile manufacturing.
He further emphasized the importance of the “Panch Pran” or five pledges—social harmony, environmental responsibility, Swadeshi adoption, revival of family values, and civic responsibility—as key to strengthening the movement.
Patton said the campaign is not just a policy initiative but a national movement to unite citizens under the spirit of Swadeshi. He informed that various programmes including essay competitions, seminars, and fairs would be held nationwide to engage students, traders, and entrepreneurs.
He appealed to all citizens to embrace Swadeshi in daily life and carry forward the message to every household, making self-reliance a shared national commitment.
