Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW), in collaboration with the Women Cell of Tetso College and supported by the National Commission for Women (NCW), organised an awareness programme on Poshan Maah at Tetso College on October 10.
Delivering the keynote address, NSCW chairperson W. Nginyeih Konyak highlighted the initiatives of NCW aimed at promoting equal opportunities for women across the state. She underscored the need for sustained awareness and institutional support to safeguard women’s rights, particularly in addressing workplace sexual harassment and domestic violence. Nginyeih called for continued vigilance and stronger legal frameworks to support survivors and build a more equitable society.
Speaking on the significance of Poshan Maah—celebrated annually in September—Konyak said the campaign was launched as a people’s movement to combat malnutrition and promote nutrition. She stressed the year’s theme, which advocates for the active involvement of men in caregiving and nutrition, and emphasized shared responsibility in ensuring family and community well-being.
In his introductory remarks, Tetso College chairman Kvulo Lorin spoke on the importance of nutrition and good health in leading a purposeful life. He also shared the institution’s vision to introduce academic programmes in Physical Science and Sports Studies, aligning with its commitment to holistic education.
SDO (Civil), Chümoukedima, Shreyansee Jain, in her address, emphasized that nutrition is foundational to empowerment and societal progress. She expressed concern over the growing reliance on processed foods and urged communities to embrace locally available organic produce and adopt balanced diets. Jain added that Poshan Maah should evolve into a lifelong commitment to wellness.
The programme featured three technical sessions: Dr. Sosinle Kent, Medical Officer, CHC Dhansiripar, spoke on “Men Streaming – Involving Men as Active Stakeholders in Nutrition and Caregiving.” Dr. Avitso Liegise, Senior Consultant and Head of Cardiology, CIHSR, Chümoukedima, addressed “Obesity – Reducing Consumption of Sugar, Salt, and Oil” and Renthunglo Kikon, Centre Administrator, Sakhi-One Stop Centre, Chümoukedima, spoke on “Legal Rights” and highlighted various government initiatives for women and girls. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by NSCW member Kekhrienuo Meyase.
