National seminar on tribal culture and identity held at Yingli College

DIMAPUR

A one-day national seminar on the theme “Tribal Culture and Identity in India” was held at Borgohain Hall, Yingli College, Longleng on October 16. The seminar was sponsored by the Directorate of Higher Education, State Level Quality Assurance Cell (SLQAC), Nagaland, with associate professor, Department of History, Goa University, Dr. Parag D. Parobo, as the main speaker.
According to a DIPR report, welcoming the participants, Principal Dr. T. Temsu Imti emphasized the importance of cultural preservation and urged students to actively engage in such academic platforms. He expressed gratitude to the Department of Higher Education for their support in organizing the seminar.
The inaugural session was chaired by assistant professor, Department of English, Dr. Kekhriengulieu Tachu. The programme commenced with the College Anthem and an invocation by assistant professor, Department of Sociology, Phenmei B Phom, followed by a folk song performance by BA 1st Semester students.
Associate professor, Department of History, Dr. A Rahman, delivered the keynote address. The main inaugural lecture was presented online by Dr. Parag D. Parobo, who offered a comprehensive analysis of tribal culture and identity across pre- and post-colonial contexts. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by vice principal Dr. B Henshet Phom.
The seminar featured two technical sessions. The first focused on “The Phom Nagas’ Culture, Oral Narratives, and Identity,” while the second explored “Transition from Tradition to Modernity and Cultural Continuities.” Both sessions provided rich academic insights and fostered meaningful discussions.
The day-long seminar concluded with a valedictory session, marking a successful academic engagement on tribal heritage and identity.
