Meghalaya Police has filed a chargesheet in the rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl at Kalapangti village in Ri Bhoi district, a police official said on Thursday. The chargesheet was filed before the Court of Special Judge of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Adellyne Thangkhiew in Ri-Bhoi district on Wednesday against the prime accused Iainehskhem Kharsati.
Kharsati was arrested for allegedly raping and murdering a 13-year-old girl on October 9 and her body was recovered by the villagers from a forested area under Mawlasnai Police Outpost jurisdiction.
“Investigation into the rape and murder case has been completed in 13 days’ time as per our commitment to charge sheet the case within 2 weeks,” district police chief, Ri-Bhoi Vivekanand Singh Rathore, said.
He informed that the case was registered on October 10, after the recovery of the victim’s dead body on the previous evening. The case was investigated by Woman Police/ Unarmed Branch Inspector S. Ryngksai.
During the investigation, Kharsati had reportedly admitted that he had first sexually assaulted the child and then murdered her.
Meghalaya Police had enlisted the accused in National Database on Sexual Offenders (NDSO) and booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences, Act.
