Staff ReporterDIMAPUR, NOV 6 (NPN)

The Nagaland State Veterinary Council (NSVC) organized a one-day Continuing Veterinary Education (CVE) development programme on November 6 at Europa Inn, Golaghat Road, Dimapur.
The program was conducted and sponsored by Mars Petcare, headquartered in Hyderabad under the aegis of NSVC. The program was graced by Full member of the ESVD, ISVM and BSAVA and representative of India for Asian Society for Veterinary Dermatology (AISVD), education committee of World Association of Vet Dermatology and organising committee member for World Congress Veterinary Dermatology, Spain, 2028, Dr Umesh Kallahalli as the guest speaker.
The main objective of CVE was to maintain and improve the competence of veterinary professionals aimed at enhancing animal health and welfare, protecting public health by controlling zoonotic diseases, ensuring food safety, and supporting the veterinary profession through career advancement, professional confidence, and better marketability.
Delivering the welcome speech, NSVC President, Dr. Simon Ao stated that it was indeed a challenge for veterinary practitioners to treat patients that could not verbally express their problems, a skill he described as truly admirable. He highlighted that the performance of a veterinarian was ultimately valued by the impact they created in enhancing animal health and welfare, protecting public health through the control of zoonotic diseases, and ensuring food safety.
Dr. Ao emphasized that to effectively fulfil these crucial roles, veterinarians must have confidence in their professional proficiency. He noted that Continuing Veterinary Education (CVE) programs served precisely this purpose, to enhance professional knowledge, skills, and efficiency.
He further observed that the composition of participants reflected a wide spectrum of expertise, including clinicians, entrepreneurs, planners, executives, and others engaged in various sectors of veterinary practice and related industries. According to him, the scope of opportunities for veterinarians had expanded, particularly with the North East region, especially Assam, Nagaland, and Manipur, emerging as part of the trade corridor linking mainland India with Southeast Asian countries.
He concluded by pointing out that Nagaland alone had five designated trade centers, and urged veterinary professionals to strive to become integral contributors to the export value chain associated with livestock, poultry products, and their by-products.
The guest speaker covered on the following topics- fluid therapy, infectious diseases in cats and advancements in veterinary medicine and addressing evolving needs in animal care.
Other highlights of the program included, felicitation of the guest, a short speech by Mars Petcare, Customer Marketing Professional Channel, Dr. Ganga Singh and Certificates for the CVE was also given to all the participants.
Mars Petcare India, the sponsor for the event is the manufacturer of leading pet food brands Pedigree and Whiskas.
