Nagaland Field Day on QRSP held at Dhansiripar

A field day on Quality Rice Seed Production (QRSP) was successfully organized at Dhansiripar by the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, and KVK Dimapur, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Chümoukedima, Nagaland. The programme aimed to promote the high-yielding paddy variety RC Maniphou-7 and sensitize farmers on scientific seed production practices.
The event was graced by District Agriculture Officer, Chümoukedima, Moainla Pongen, as the chief guest, and was headed by Dr. Harendra Verma, Scientist, ICAR Nagaland Centre; Dr. Phool Kumari (senior scientist and head, KVK Dimapur); and Dr. Bendangla Imsong (CTO, Plant Breeding) with the support from Marneni Divya Sree (SMS, agricultural extension), Dr. Akshay Ujjwal (SMS, Agronomy), and Dr. Moanaro (Programme Assistant).
Dr. Harendra Verma, in his address, emphasized the importance of adopting scientific practices in paddy cultivation, highlighting the superior traits of RC Maniphou-7 including its high yield potential, good grain quality, and adaptability to local conditions. He encouraged farmers to adopt this variety for quality seed production and enhanced profitability.
Chief Guest Moainla Pongen spoke about the concept of developing Seed Villages, urging farmers to become self-sufficient in seed production rather than depending on external agencies. She also appreciated the efforts of ICAR and KVK Dimapur for their continued support in strengthening local farming systems.
As part of the programme, two pedal-operated paddy threshers were distributed to participating farmers to promote mechanization and ease post-harvest operations. Farmers also observed the impressive field performance of RC Maniphou-7 firsthand reinforcing the “Seeing is believing” concept.
The event concluded with an interactive session, where farmers shared their positive experiences and expressed enthusiasm to adopt the variety in the coming seasons. Altogether, 30 farmers from the region participated in the event.
