Kohima police on Thursday apprehended the prime suspect in the attempted armed robbery at State Bank of India (SBI) Chedema Branch that took place on October 31, 2025.
According to Kohima police PRO, the accused, identified as one Vitoulu Domeh (35), surrendered himself at the North police station following an extensive and continuous manhunt operation.
Police said that the sustained pressured from law enforcement left the suspect with “no escape route” and ultimately compelled him to surrender.
Police informed that Domeh had allegedly terrorised bank staff during the incident by brandishing a pistol and wearing an explosive device on his body.
He was subsequently identified and traced through credible intelligence inputs and with the support of the public.
Further, police stated that the accused’s surrender was the result of “the unwavering resolve of Kohima police to bring perpetrators to justice.”
PRO said investigation into the case was underway to determine all dimensions and possible accomplices involved in the robbery.
Kohima police have expressed appreciation to the public and media for their cooperation and assistance during the investigation. Police said that the successful apprehension “sends a clear message that Kohima is a no-go zone for crime.”
On October 31, a daring attempt to rob the SBI Chedema branch was foiled after the swift and courageous intervention of the bank’s security personnel.
According to Kohima police, the incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. when an unidentified man, reportedly armed with a pistol and claiming to possess a body-worn explosive device, entered the bank premises and demanded money.
The on-duty security guards acted promptly and managed to recover the entire amount the suspect had attempted to loot, also seizing the pistol from his possession. However, the accused managed to flee the scene before police arrived.
A case was subsequently registered with the North police station, Kohima, and a manhunt was launched to trace and apprehend the accused.
