Manipur joins commemorationof 150 years of Vande Mataram

Manipur’s rich contribution to Indian history was lauded by Governor Ajay Kumar Balla during the state-level commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, held at the MSFDS Auditorium in Imphal on Friday.
The event marked the national celebration of the iconic song, composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1875, which has inspired generations of Indians and played a pivotal role in the country’s freedom struggle. Vande Mataram was adopted as the national song by the Constituent Assembly in 1950. Governor Balla participated in the collective singing of the national song, paying tribute to its enduring influence on India’s cultural and political consciousness.
He praised the people of Manipur for their unwavering patriotism and highlighted the state’s history of courage, resilience, and achievement in various fields, including sports, arts, and culture, as embodying the spirit of Vande Mataram.
In his address, Governor called upon citizens to uphold the timeless ideals of patriotism and national harmony symbolized by the song, emphasizing Manipur’s immense and resilient contributions to Indian history.
The celebration also featured performances by Balmukunda Dev Music College, the Government Dance College, and the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, showcasing choreographic presentations that reflected the patriotic essence of the song.
The Governor commended the Department of Art & Culture for organizing the event with dignity and grandeur.
District-level commemorations were held across the state, and BJP Manipur Pradesh hosted an event at the party head office in Imphal. The event was attended by State BJP president A. Sarda Devi, MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, along with MLAs, party leaders, and workers. Participants collectively sang Vande Mataram, offered floral tributes to Bharat Mata, and took pledges reaffirming their commitment to serve the nation with pride and patriotism.
The event celebrated the enduring legacy of the patriotic hymn, with leaders highlighting its significance as a symbol of unwavering love for the nation. They emphasised that the occasion serves as a moment to reaffirm the collective commitment to serve the people and the country with pride and patriotism.
Listening to the speech delivered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the national level commemoration event and later after offering floral tribute to Bharat Mata sang Vande Mataram and taking a pledge were the main highlights of the event.
