The Abundant Life Foundation is set to organize a five-day skill development training programme aimed at empowering the underprivileged and unemployed sections of society.
The training, funded by the North Eastern Council (NEC), Government of India, will be conducted by expert trainers from the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
The programme is scheduled to take place at AG Higher Secondary School, Bank Colony, Dimapur, from November 24 to 28, 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. The initiative is open to all individuals aged 18 and above, regardless of gender or educational background.
Speaking to the Nagaland Post, president of Abundant Life Foundation, N Arenee Patton Ngullie shared that the five-day course will focus on toy making, jewellery making, embroidery, jute craft, and flower making.
“Our goal is to help participants acquire practical skills that can generate income from home. The entire training—including registration, materials, food, and tools—is completely free of cost,” she said.
The programme will accommodate 30 to 35 participants, and registration will remain open until November 15. Interested candidates may contact the organizers at 8974086744 to enrol.
On the final day, November 28, a closing ceremony and certificate distribution will be held, featuring a small exhibition and open market where trainees can showcase their handcrafted products. The event will also include performances by local artists and dancers.
Explaining the focus on handicrafts, the president noted that the field requires no prior qualifications and is accessible to everyone. “Unlike technical or mechanical skills, handicrafts depend on creativity and manual dexterity, making it an ideal starting point for many,” she said.
Also speaking to Nagaland Post, ALF treasurer T David Ngullie mentioned that founded in 2009, the Abundant Life Foundation has been actively engaged in social welfare through programs promoting education, culture, mental health awareness, and youth empowerment. The Foundation previously organized initiatives such as mental well-being art programs, a regional dance and music festival, and a summer camp for children.
The Foundation currently comprises a team of professionals from diverse fields including medicine, music, and law, and continues to expand its reach in partnership with schools and local communities.
The theme for the upcoming training programme, “Empowerment through heritage,” reflects the Foundation’s commitment to preserving traditional crafts while fostering economic self-reliance.
