A national Workshop on Women’s Voices in collaboration with Centre for Women’s Development Studies and Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung, Germany was organised on November 6 and 7, at the dept. of English, Nagaland University. The Workshop was sponsored by Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung, Germany.
A press release by NU stated that ten women each from Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Nagaland participated in the workshop, adding that an exhibition of their handicraft products and books was also held. Research scholars and teachers of Dept. of English also participated in the said workshop.
The release added tray prominent participants included director, Centre for Women’s Development Studies (CWDS), New Delhi, Prof. N. Manimekalai, Prof. Nitha N, Patricia Mukhim from Meghalaya, Monalisa Changkija, Sano Vamuzo, professor Rosemary Dzuvichu from Nagaland, Renu Koyu, R. Chai, and Jarjum G Ete from Arunachal Pradesh, Melissa Fernandes, Goa, and Neha Naqvi, RLS, South Asia.
The participants deliberated on women’s rights, customary laws and issues on women’s age-old sufferings and ways to solve their problems.
The release further added that stories of resistance, change and solidarity were also narrated, debated and resolutions as per Indian laws were contrived. It is also discussed about PIL and solutions as per laws where customary laws failed.
