Kiphire District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA), in collaboration with the District Administration and District Executive Force (DEF), organised a marathon under the DAWN Scheme and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan on the theme “Run Towards a Drug-Free Society,” on Saturday.
Held with the objective of promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle and raising awareness on the harmful effects of substance abuse, the event witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 400 runners across two categories—men and women, and boys and girls.
The Children’s Category (3 km) was flagged off by Sentiwapang, SDPO, Kiphire, while the Adult Category (5 km) was flagged off from Longthonger Junction by Deputy Commissioner, Kiphire, Temsuwati Longkumer.
Posters created by students of the Legal Literacy Club (LLC) were displayed during the marathon, carrying strong messages against drug abuse and reinforcing the awareness campaign.
The programme was moderated by Muwali Sangtam, Para-Legal Volunteer, KDLSA. A short address was delivered by Holika Sukhalu, secretary, KDLSA, who highlighted the importance of community involvement and the role of youth in building a drug-free society.
Prizes for the Adult Category were presented by DC Temsuwati Longkumer, while SDPO Sentiwapang presented prizes for the Children’s Category. All winners received medals, certificates, and cash awards in recognition of their achievements.
The event was attended by officials from the District Administration, Police Department, Legal Services Authority, and Kiphire Village Councils. A vote of thanks was delivered by Lisi L. Thongru, Assistant LADC, on behalf of KDLSA.
