Lemsachenlok Nagaland conducted a day-long workshop under the theme: Reimagining Biodiversity Conservation: giving importance to sustainable community conservation with digitalized portal development exercises’ on November 4 at Hopongkyu Memorial Hall Kiphire, bringing collective villagers including Village Council members, Gaonboras, student leaders and woman representative.
The chairman and team leader of Lemsachenlok, Dr.Y. Nuklu Phom, highlighted the key features, including, Importance of establishing Biodiversity Peace Corridor, and Trans Border Biodiversity Corridors under Missio Ecology to create an augmented ecosphere in order to usher harmonious coexistence between humans and biodiversity.
He emphasized that modern conservation goes beyond protecting forest areas or restricting hunting and logging, though these remain essential foundations. He highlighted the need for ‘Digitalized Portal Development Exercises’, ‘Initiate Management Plan’ exercises with resources mapping and create a sustainable livelihood through sustainable biodiversity cradled around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
Dr. Nuklu also spoke on the importance of empowering rural education to rural children through AlijoCademia, traditional learning models, by equipping and instilling holistic learning among communities involved in biodiversity corridors and transborder conservation efforts.
In the second session, Lemsachenlok team members shared their experiences, ideas, provisions and scope in respect of conserving the biodiversity under the organization’s initiatives and encouraged participants to work towards sustainable biodiversity.
Deputy commissioner, Kiphire, Temsuwati acknowledged the initiative of Lemsachenlok and further urged the gathering to inculcate the ideas and aspirations to preserve and sustain the flora and fauna of the land, and accordingly accentuating the cycle of interdependence vis-à-vis the plant and animal kingdoms.
The team also visited Seyochung village and Tethuyo village under Kiphire village and a community fishery was launched at Seyochung Village, a joint venture of Seyochung Village Council and Lemsachenlok under Sustainable Community Development (SCD).
The event concluded with a commitment by all attendees to protect the village’s natural resources and promote a greener, healthier environment for future generations. In furtherance, the District Administration, Lemsachenlok and the villages pledged to maintain the cohesiveness towards sustainable environment in days to come.
The invocation was proposed by USBLA Kiphire associate secretary, Dr Apise, and the introductory note by DPO Kiphire, Lipichem.
