Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) has expressed deep concern over what it described as “continued negligence and unsatisfactory performance” of EPC contractor, M/s Ranta Infrastructure Projects Pvt. Ltd., in the ongoing construction of NH-29, Package-II (Chakhabama-Kikrüma).
In a representation to the executive director, NHIDCL Regional Office, Kohima, CSU president Pfhülo Sara stated that the ground situation continued to remain deplorable and hazardous for commuters despite repeated appeals, representations, and even official actions against the agency and the contractor.
CSU said that poor workmanship, lack of progress, and complete absence of accountability had caused immense hardship to the travellers, transporters and the like. The union pointed out that at the consultative meeting convened by DC Phek May 14, 2025, both NHIDCL & EPC contractor assured to repair and maintain the road.
Besides, CSU said EPC contractor had assured to resume construction works in full strength by second week of October 2025 depending on favourable weather conditions.
However, CSU expressed regret that there had been no tangible improvement on the ground.
It said the contractor persistently failed to fulfil its contractual obligations, and NHIDCL, despite being the implementing authority, failed to take effective corrective measures or penal action against the inefficiency.
In the light of the above, CSU has demanded immediate and decisive intervention from NHIDCL to take stringent disciplinary actions against the contractor and to ensure that the work was expedited.
If the situation continued to remain unattended, the union cautioned that it would be compelled to initiate public agitation and democratic actions against both the agency and EPC contractor, adding that NHIDCL and contractor would bear full responsibility for any consequences.
CSU has, therefore, demanded that the matter be treated with utmost seriousness and urgency.
