Longchang Area Students’ Union (LASU) has extended its full support to the Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) in its legitimate demand for a review and reform of the state job reservation policy based on population ratio, to ensure equitable justice.
In a press statement, LASU president T.S. Pongchi and general secretary K. Methnyei acknowledged that the Konyak tribe—one of the largest tribal populations in Nagaland—continues to face systemic marginalization under the current reservation framework.
LASU highlighted that the disparity in employment opportunities, compounded by high literacy rates among youth, rising unemployment, and poor socio-economic indicators in Mon district, underscores the urgent need for redressal.
“This is not merely a call for policy reform, but a cry for justice, equality, and recognition of the rights of the Konyak people,” the union stated. It warned that any further delay in addressing the issue would deepen frustration among educated youth and could lead to serious social consequences. LASU therefore urged the State Government to take immediate steps to restructure the existing reservation policy and adopt a population-based system without waiting for the release of the 2021 census report.
