Nagaland State Handloom Expo underway at Urban Haat, Dimapur

DIMAPUR

Nagaland Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd. (NHHDC), under the sponsorship of the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, inaugurated the State Handloom Expo (SHE) at Urban Haat, Dimapur on November 12.
The exhibition, which will continue till November 24, features 60 participants including artisans and weavers from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and various districts of Nagaland. A wide array of handloom, khadi and handicraft products reflecting the region’s rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship are on display.
Chairman of NHHDC Ltd., Prasielie Pienyu, who graced the occasion as guest of honour, emphasized the importance of preserving traditional crafts and promoting self-reliance among artisans and weavers. He lauded the Ministry of Textiles for sponsoring the event and commended NHHDC Ltd. for its consistent efforts in uplifting the handloom sector. Pienyu also encouraged artisans to embrace creativity and innovation, and called upon the public to support locally made products.
In his welcome address, Er. Y. Lipongse Thongtsar, Managing Director of NHHDC Ltd., urged participants to uphold traditional craftsmanship through hard work, honesty and passion. He highlighted the Expo’s role in fostering market linkages and creating avenues for economic empowerment of artisans and weavers.
The State Handloom Expo serves as a platform to promote indigenous crafts, facilitate buyer-seller interaction, and strengthen the handloom economy across the Northeast region.
