Taking serious note of public spaces, particularly footpaths, being obstructed by street vendors, hawkers, and other unauthorized structures, affecting pedestrian and vehicular traffic, the deputy commissioner (DC) Kohima has prohibited the encroachment of public spaces such as footpaths in Kohima district.
In an order, DC Kohima B. Henok Buchem noted that both permanent and temporary structures erected on public pathways posed a threat to road safety for pedestrians and vehicles and could potentially lead to road accidents or stampedes.
Therefore, DC has strictly prohibited all unauthorized structures and activities encroaching upon public spaces such as footpaths in Kohima district with immediate effect. The district administration has cautioned that necessary action would be initiated against defaulters.
