Manipur Gov commits to children’s dreams, well-being on Children’s Day

CorrespondentIMPHAL, NOV 14

Manipur joined the rest of the country in celebrating National Children’s Day on Friday, with Governor Ajay Kumar Balla reaffirming the state government’s commitment to nurturing children’s dreams and ensuring their well-being. National Children’s Day is observed annually on November 14 to commemorate the birth anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, fondly remembered as “Chacha Nehru.” This year’s celebration carried the theme “For Every Child, Every Right,” underscoring the importance of protecting children’s rights and fostering their holistic growth.
Across Manipur, schools and communities organized cultural programmes, games, and activities highlighting the significance of education, rights, and welfare for children. In his message, Governor Balla paid tribute to Nehru’s faith in the potential of young minds, noting that the creativity and energy of Manipur’s children enrich the state’s cultural and social fabric. He further lauded the resilience and talent of young athletes, who have consistently brought pride to the state and nation through their achievements in sports.
Former chief minister and senior Congress leader O Ibobi Singh also marked the occasion at Imphal Congress Bhavan, where floral tributes were offered to Nehru’s bust.
Singh described Nehru as the architect of modern India and emphasized his enduring affection for children, reminding society of its duty to safeguard their rights and nurture their future. He urged parents and teachers to provide proper guidance and education so that children grow into responsible citizens.
The event was attended by MPCC president K Meghachandra, state Congress leaders, sitting and former legislators, and former MPs. Former Chief Minister N Biren Singh also extended greetings, expressing hope that Children’s Day would inspire collective efforts to protect children’s innocence and empower them to pursue brighter futures.
