Nagaland CSOs differ on proposed Nov 18 public rally at Agri Expo

DIMAPUR, NOV 16 (NPN)

Differences appear to have emerged among civil society organizations (CSOs) regarding the proposed November 18 public rally at Agri Expo. While the organizers- the Naga Common Platform (NCP) and the Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum (DDCF)- have called for mass participation, the Chakhroma Public Organization (CPO) has issued directive to members not to attend. Earlier, a similar stand was taken by the Nagaland Tribal Hohos Coordination Committee (NTHCC), which decided to abstain from participation.
NCP organisers urge unity for Naga solution: The apex civil society organizations and the Organising Committee of the Naga Common Platform (NCP) while expressing appreciation to the Forum for Naga Reconciliation’s (FNR) “religious approach” toward unity and reconciliation among Naga Political Groups (NPGs), stated it has “no ill intention” to undermine or conflict with the FNR in any manner.
According to NCP, misunderstandings among some tribal leaders on the Common Platform-initiated by the Nagaland Gaon Bura Federation (NGBF) and apex civil bodies- arose from a “misreading of on-the-ground realities”.
NCP asserted that while the FNR’s healing mission remained valuable, the proposed November 18 Common Platform reflected the situation and circumstances faced by stakeholders. NCP said due to prolonged negotiations and an indefinite peace process, they were placed with “a heavy burden on the people”. NCP maintained that the two approaches, were “complementary toward the same objective”.
Further clarifying on holding the rally, NCP stated that it held “no prejudice, hidden agenda or intention” to undermine or challenge anyone’s authority.
It said the scheduled public gathering on November 18 was an open act intended to fill the “overdue hiatus of silence” on the pressing demand for an early political solution.
NCP also asserted that the two principal negotiating groups had already reached their conclusion for a final agreement, and that the ultimate decision now lay with the Government of India to deliver an inclusive and comprehensive solution based on the “gentlemen’s agreements”.
Acknowledging the concerns raised by the NTHCC , the organizers said they recognised the sacred mission of healing society but also sensed the urgent need for stakeholders to rise above divisions and participate in what they described as a “people’s movement”. They stated that stakeholders’ endorsement was necessary to prepare the “landing ground” for a wholesome peace.
Reaffirming their commitment to stakeholders’ participation “beyond one-upmanship”, the organisers appealed to tribe leaders to appreciate the urgency of breaking the present impasse. They said a state has been reached on ‘If not now, then when?’, and once again called on all stakeholders to come forward, participate and decide the future of the Nagas.
DDCF urges mass turnout: Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum (DDCF) has informed all its member organisations that the Nagaland Gaon Bura Federation Peace Committee will be organising a common platform for an early Naga political solution on November 18, 2025 at 10 a.m. at the Agri Expo site.
DDCF said the programme is being organised in line with the resolution adopted at the meeting of almost all Naga CSOs held on March 20, 2025 at Tourist Lodge.
In this regard, DDCF directed its member organisations to accord priority to the event and attend the rally with a minimum of 100 members each to ensure its success.

CPO asks members not to attend meet

Meanwhile, Chakhroma Public Organization (CPO) has directed all its members, particularly GBs under its jurisdiction, not to participate in or attend the meeting called by the All Nagaland GBs Association at Agri Expo on November 18, 2025.
In a statement, CPO president Zhato Kimho and vice president Sebastian Zumvu said that the directive was issued in compliance with the Angami Public Organization (APO), the apex tribal body of the Angami community.
While acknowledging the urgent need for an early, honourable and inclusive solution to the protracted Naga political issue, CPO said that the formation of a new parallel body at this juncture- particularly after the Ungma and Zunheboto Declarations adopted unanimously by all Naga tribes and political entities earlier this year- could destabilize and jeopardize the collective momentum toward the desired resolution.
CPO therefore, asked all Angamis under Chakhroma jurisdiction to strictly adhere to the APO directive and refrain from attending the proposed November 18 gathering.
