United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC), the apex student body of the Sangtam community, conducted an inspection of the ongoing construction of the Assistant Mechanical Engineer (AME) office in Kiphire on November 11 and expressed concern over prolonged delays in its completion.
According to USSC, the project—sanctioned through a work order in 2023—has remained neglected for years despite nearing completion. The building, as observed during the inspection, requires only final touches such as painting and electrical wiring. USSC questioned whether the delay stemmed from contractor negligence or departmental inefficiencies and lamented that even after Kiphire was declared a district headquarters in February 2004, the Mechanical Office has yet to be bifurcated, despite the lapse of over two decades. The student body demanded that the construction be completed and the office made operational by early 2026.
It further assured that it would continue to monitor the progress of the project to ensure timely completion.
