Nagaland Vibrant cultural programme at Longwa

A vibrant cultural programme was held at Indo-Myanmar border village, Longwa under Mon district on November 15, organized by North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) in collaboration with the Department of Art & Culture, Government of Nagaland, as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The event aimed to promote cultural exchange, unity, and preservation of indigenous identity among border communities situated near international boundaries with China, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan, alongside the eight Northeastern states of India.
Gracing the occasion as guest of honour, Er. Thanyalo Kath, Sub-Divisional Officer, Power Department, Mon, emphasized the importance of sustaining traditional values, cultural expressions, and inter-community relationships. He lauded NEZCC and the Art & Culture Department for organizing the programme in a strategically significant location.
The programme featured a series of cultural showcases, including six traditional dance and music performances by troupes from Longwa and Nyahnyu villages. Each presentation reflected the unique rhythm, attire, and folklore of the respective communities, highlighting the region’s rich artistic legacy.
Deputy director cum Nodal Officer, Art & Culture Department, Teisovikuolie Therie, informed that the performances embodied the cultural identity and heritage of the border communities.
Earlier, District Cultural Officer, Mon, Peter Thanghoi Thai delivered the introductory message, outlining the objectives of the programme under the Vibrant Villages initiative, with emphasis on cultural preservation and community engagement in remote areas.
The inaugural ceremony was chaired by W. Kaiwang Konyak, Assistant Research Officer, Art & Culture Department, Mon, while S. Yona, Pastor, Longwa Baptist Church, offered prayers for the programme.
