New Aadhaar app to facilitate paperless ID sharing, option to verify information: UIDAI

NEW DELHI, NOV 19 (IANS)

Offline verification using the Aadhaar App will offer users and entities a secure, convenient and privacy-protecting method of identity verification, reducing the need to share physical copies of Aadhaar that may expose individuals to fraud, UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a webinar on “Offline Verification using the Aadhaar App”, held ahead of the formal launch of the updated app, Kumar said the objective was to promote offline verification, strengthen its ecosystem and raise awareness about its features and benefits. Over 250 participants from various sectors joined the session.
UIDAI officials provided an overview of the process, highlighting the ability to verify and share complete or selective Aadhaar information and confirm proof of presence through offline face verification. DDG Vivek Chandra Verma explained the purpose, scope and practical applications of offline verification, including its technical framework and integration pathways.
UIDAI said the new Aadhaar App would offer several user-centric features, such as storing Aadhaar details of up to five family members, full control over what data is shared, one-click biometric lock/unlock, and options to update mobile numbers and addresses more easily.
The session saw active participation from ecosystem partners, with many queries addressed live. UIDAI encouraged organisations to explore use cases and initiate onboarding as Offline Verification Seeking Entities. Authorities said more features would be introduced with the new Aadhaar App to enhance resident convenience and strengthen secure digital identity services nationwide.
