The three-day state-level Self Help Group (SHG) Exhibition-cum-Sale under the DAY-NULM and DJAY-S initiative, organised by State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) was inaugurated at old NST parking area, Kohima on Wednesday. The event, which will continue till November 22, aims to promote SHG enterprises, enhance market exposure, and support sustainable livelihoods, with a special focus on women-led SHGs from across Nagaland.
Gracing the opening ceremony as guest of honour, Commissioner & Secretary, Urban Development & Municipal Affairs and chairman of SUDA, Kekhrievor Kevichiisa, stated that the newly launched Deendayal Jan Ajeevika Yojana – Shehari (DJAY) is expected to be fully operational by the end of November. He expressed hope that the scheme would be broader in scope and execution, covering all 39 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the state and facilitating the formation of new SHGs.
Kevichiisa encouraged the SUDA team and participating SHGs to aim for national platforms such as the India International Trade Fair in Delhi and to showcase their products at state and regional levels. He also urged SHGs to collaborate with other departments to strengthen their enterprises and improve economic outcomes. He informed that since inception, 884 SHGs have been formed, with 30 of the best groups participating in the current exhibition.
Joint Director, Urban Development and State Mission Director, DAY-NULM, Petevilie Khatsü, highlighted that the programme is being held under the Financial Inclusion & Enterprise Development (FI&ED) component of DJAY.
He said the mission seeks to address the occupational, social, and residential vulnerabilities of the urban poor, with targeted interventions for groups such as construction workers, transport workers, gig workers, care workers, waste workers, and domestic workers.
Ten districts—Dimapur, Kiphire, Kohima, Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Peren, Phek, Tuensang, and Wokha—are participating in the exhibition.
