Nagaland CSU demands ‘termination of incompetent contractor’

DIMAPUR, NOV 20 (NPN)

Expressing concern over public hardship due to continued negligence of the ongoing construction of NH-29 Package-II (Chakhabama-Kikrüma) by EPC contractor, the Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) and urged the responsible authority to “terminate the incompetent contractor at the earliest.”
In a representation addressed to the executive director NHIDCL regional office Kohima, Chakhesang Students’ Union president Pfhülo Sara and general secretary Kuzoto Swuro appreciated the resolution adopted during the recent project monitoring group (PMG) meeting on November 14, 2025, which acknowledged the sufferings of the public.
CSU also welcomed the decision of PMG members to approve and forward the termination of the contract. However, the union expressed concern that this now constituted the second termination notice since M/s Ranta Infrastructure Projects Pvt. Ltd. (RIPL) assumed the contract on January 4, 2024. “Yet there continues to be negligible progress and recurring inconsistencies in the execution of work,” CSU stated.
CSU pointed out that the first termination notice was served on dated June 13, 2024. It said that the overall work remained persistently slow.
Despite the terrain requiring round-the-year maintenance, CSU said the contractor failed to attend to the site without valid justification, causing undue hardship to the public.
According to the union, the RTI report indicated only 25.70% physical progress and 25.41% financial progress, with the financial expenditure exceeding the actual progress achieved on the ground. At this pace, the union said development of two-lane highway appeared to serve the interests of the contractor rather than the welfare of the public.
Asserting it can no longer tolerate any excuse or to further entertain any form of negotiation the CSU has, therefore, urged the responsible authority to “terminate the incompetent contractor at the earliest”.
“Failing which any kind of public unrest or causalities hereafter to the EPC contractor will be the sole responsibility of the NHIDCL,” CSU warned.
