Nagaland NIAPA to host 5th Northeast OpenTT Championship from December 18

DIMAPUR, NOV 21 (NPN)

The Northeast India Academy of Performing Arts (NIAPA) has announced that the 5th NIAPA Northeast Open Table Tennis Tournament will be held from December 18 to 21 at the NIAPA Mini Stadium, Chümoukedima.
In a press release, NIAP informed that the championship seeks to promote table tennis in Nagaland while providing state players exposure by competing against top paddlers from across the Northeast. The four-day event will feature Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Under-21, Veteran Doubles, Best Duo and Team Events.
A total cash prize of Rs. 6,00,000 has been declared, making it one of the biggest prize pools in the country for table tennis. NIAPA Managing Director A. K. Yhome stated that the academy remains committed to building a strong foundation for the sport in Nagaland by offering opportunities for competition, growth and exposure. She added that the tournament reflects NIAPA’s long-term vision of uplifting sports while nurturing talent across multiple disciplines.
The tournament will open with the veteran event, followed by team, U-21, and individual categories, with the finals scheduled for December 21. A new category, “Best Duo,” has been introduced this year to highlight Nagaland players, offering Rs. 15,000 for first place, Rs. 12,000 for second, and Rs. 4,000 each for semifinalists.
Cash prizes have been announced across all categories. The Team Event will award Rs. 1,00,000 to the winners and Rs. 50,000 to runners-up. Men’s Singles winners will receive Rs. 25,000, while Women’s Singles winners will get Rs. 20,000. Doubles events carry prizes ranging from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 30,000 for winners, with semifinalists also rewarded. Mixed Doubles champions will receive Rs. 30,000. The U-21 and Veteran Doubles categories also carry attractive prizes, alongside individual recognitions such as the “Best Naga Player of the Day.”
